Character Name: Lara Croft
Canon: Tomb Raider (2013 reboot)
Canon-Point: Post game
Age: 21
History: Here you be!
Personality:
Lara is a total nerd stuck in a badass's body. After the mysterious disappearance of her parents, Lara throws herself into archaeological research as a method of coping, as her father was also big into the impossible adventure scene. She has a strong passion for ancient cultures, and that manifests itself in the need to go out into the world and explore. Her initial interest stems in learning more about the ancient island of Yamatai, which was inspired by her BFF Sam's mysterious ancestry. Simply put, Lara is a young woman who can't say no to a puzzle, and uses history and ancient relics to solve said puzzles. She has a strong interest in the past, and in-game her voice picks up noticeable enthusiasm when she's discussing the ancient treasures she uncovers.
Lara researches not because of fame or riches, like her mentor Professor Whitman, but because she desires to understand more about the past: cultures, people, and practices. At the end of the game, she vows to find answers to the mysterious aspects of history, and it's clear that she values the knowledge of history. Lara is the type of person to be endlessly inquisitive, always asking questions and going to extreme lengths to get the answers. She's intelligent and capable, and from her conversation with Whitman it's apparent that she's not afraid to think outside of the box when presented with academic hurdles. Lara is open-minded, and willing to believe the impossible when the evidence points to it.
It is because of her ambition to solve the mysterious of the past that a lot of crazy shit went down. In the game Tomb Raider, the player sees Lara transform from a relatively innocent and enthusiastic researcher to certified badass....and enthusiastic researcher. A lot of Lara's personality is changed by the events of Yamatai, and the clearest end result is a more jaded perspective and numb pragmatism Lara develops. Having to survive the island, Lara transforms because of her determination. If there is one aspect of her personality that could overshadow her academic interests, it is her endless endurance and resilience. On the island, Lara was repetitively forced into kill or be killed situations, and Lara chose kill.
When confronted by a cultist who wanted to murder her, Lara grabs his handgun and kills him before he can strangle her. She later says that killing him was frighteningly easy. She skins her own animals with an arrowhead. Her split-second, instinctual reactions mark a definite shift in Lara's perspective: everything becomes about survival, and guilt or remorse is buried deep down somewhere inaccessible. Lara is extremely pragmatic, and doesn't take the time to question the morality of her actions when her life is on the line. Her goals of surviving, solving the mystery of the island, and saving her crewmates overtake any other thoughts or reservations she might have held outside of the island.
Lara has something of a chronic hero complex, especially in relation to saving people. She takes a lot of unnecessary risks within the game in order to save people, such as traveling across hostile mountain terrain to save a rescue pilot, crawling into a wolf den to find a first aid kit for Roth, and swimming three miles out into sea to rescue the tech guy from a ruined ship overtaken by enemy cultists. She takes on an army of armed cultists, samurai, and an ancient, undead queen in order to save her best friend. Lara repetitively puts herself in extremely dangerous situations to save her friends, and when a crewmate dies, the loss hits her hard. The death of Roth in particular sends her into a shock, and it's clear that she takes on the blame for her comrade's deaths and her inability to save them. Lara has repressed a lot of grief, trauma, pain, and stress in order to make it through, and it's clear something about her is forever changed.
Lara keeps moving as a coping mechanism for the crazy shit that's happened to her. Beaten, threatened, shot, and assaulted, she always pushes forward so she never has to look back. The end of the game sees the crew finally rescued and in a position of finally going home. Lara says fuck that, and instead turns her attention to the next adventure. Her time on the island, and the discovery of Himiko's curse, has her on an unending mission to explore the rest of the unnatural secrets of history, and it's implied that she does this in part because she can't handle a peaceful time where she can reflect about the changes that have occurred in her. Lara is constantly on the move because she doesn't know how to handle herself when she stops.
When interacting with people, Lara is generally a nice person. However, just because she's nice doesn't mean she's soft-hearted. When she fights against the cultists, she lets loose a bunch of battle cries that can be summed up as COME GET SOME, BASTARDS. She doesn't put up with shit, and seeing Whitman betray the crew repetitively for fame has left her with a thin patience for double-crossers. She's not afraid to call people out, and over the course of the game she begins to develop a dark sense of humor, particularly when dealing with Reyes. Generally, she is polite and extremely loyal, but her friendliness has developed a sharper edge after the events on the island.
Abilities/Powers:
RAIDING TOMBS
Lara has no supernatural abilities, but she has a lot of skills she's acquired due to being stranded on a craaaaazy island and being a huge nerd.
Archaeology and Anthropology: Lara has a huge attraction to history. She's a recent college graduate, specializing in the aforementioned subjects, and the games have shown that she has an in-depth knowledge of East Asian relics, culture and language. No doubt this extends to other areas, since she's basically been studying ancient civilizations since childhood.
Survival Skills: Lara can identify edible plants (all of which are tomatoes) and can hunt, skin, and prepare animals. She also knows the basics of treating injuries, navigation and cartography, and starting fires. Think extreme Girl Scout.
Climbing shit: Lara can rock climb, do crazy jumps, and basically has some crazy upper body strength
Weapons & Melee:
She knows how to:
-Fire and maintain guns (assault rifle, hand gun, and shotgun are used in game)
-Counter and counter-attack melee assaults (in game she uses a climbing ax as a weapon)
-Use salvage to upgrade weapons
-Fire a bow and arrow
Items:
-A competition bow and several arrows
-Rope
-Shotgun
-Handgun
-Assault rifle
-Climbing ax
-Crappier ax that she uses as a crank handle
-A two-way radio
-Lots of treasure maps
-A keen sense of adventure

Third person
Lara remained oblivious to the leathersmith's irritation as she lifted up another of his tools.
"Incredible, this looks almost exactly like the same headknives they used in fourteenth century France," she stared at the blunt metal edge, turning it over in her hands, "Though the wood used for the handle isn't consistent with the traditional models...maybe a custom work?"
The leathersmith grunted, "It's a knife."
Lara looked up, "Yes, but do you realize how astounding it is to find some of these tools in such condition?"
The smith continued to stare. Lara cleared her throat.
"Never mind, then. Have you been a leathersmith long?"
He grunted, going back to his work on the leather.
She sighed, putting down the headknife and instead turning her attention to the reigns he was in the process of making, "Excellent craftsmanship on these as well, is this genuine deer hide?"
"Are you going to buy something or not."
